The inauguration is making me cry, and I can’t pinpoint the exact source of those emotions. I do know that it’s not the usual reasons that are making other people emotional (first African American president, the end of the Bush presidency, the unlikeliness that we’ll manage to dig ourselves out of the hole we’re in despite this changeover, etc.). Oh, Yo Yo Ma, he always makes me cry. But that’s not it either. Nor can I blame it on the uterus.

I think Dick Cheney is dead. Weekend at Bernie’s dead, but with super-secret army technology corpse reanimation. Who ever heard of a person with a back injury ending up in a wheelchair unless that injury were an immobilizing one? And who ever heard of the idea of Dick Cheney moving his own boxes? Seriously? He has an Army of Poor to do that for him. And with his health, he shouldn’t be doing any heavy lifting anyway. Also strange: I feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for Dick Cheney! What in the hell is wrong with me?

Couldn’t they have given Yo Yo Ma a better backdrop than a chain link fence?

Oh my god, Obama knows the words to the oath and the Chief Justice fucked them up and Obama didn’t repeat them until Roberts said the right words. Obama voted against Roberts’ appointment. Payback?

Even if the world ends right now, it didn’t end under a Bush presidency. I am not kidding when I say I didn’t think that would happen. I had imagined a military coup or something. I didn’t think Bush would EVER LEAVE. EVER.

I would not sleep with Al Gore, but I would definitely make out with him if he offered. And I would mess up his hair while doing it.

I am doing random thoughts wrong. It’s supposed to be “random” and “thoughts running through your head” not “random” and “reactions to a specific event/thing/whatever.” I will try harder next time.

Baby reacting strongly to Obama–kicking the crap out of chest region. Perhaps Obama has already harnessed the Power of the Unborn to do his bidding? Sorry, Dick Cheney, I know that’s what you were hoping to do. Oh, wait, no, that’s EAT babies.

I’ve got, like, zero readers again.  That’s sad.  I was going to ask where everybody went, and then I realized, hey, I read and am generally read by grad students.  They went to they same dark place I went to a few weeks ago.

Debate in a few minutes.  God, CNN is hilarious with its “CNN.com” streaming debate interactive extravaganza crap.  It was worse when they trucked in the pretty young women to play with the touch screen.  Now they’ve got some old guy at the tech helm, which at least means they aren’t trying to play the young and hip card.  That’s Obama’s job, I guess.

We’re all so excited for this debate, but come on, it’s not like this is the first time we’ve seen a bumpkin go up against a smart(er) person (I’m not all that impressed by Biden’s intellect, either, and part of me still feels like this should have been Hillary’s VP debate).  Anyway, all Biden has to do is not roll his eyes ala Al Gore in 2000, and he should be fine.

I think we have a bigger problem: the major commercial running during the pre-debate coverage is the cash.4.gold ad, meaning either that the demographic for this particular debate is estimated to be wider than the norm, or we’re all fucked and have started selling off our jewelry.  Except the Palins, whose net worth makes them not quite the average Americans.  But not McCain-rich, either.

P.S. I love me some Gwen Ifill.  Don’t care what her book is about.
